laskan Malamutes are not recommended for first time owners. This breed has a number of specific traits and needs much care and attention. Unfortunately, not all people realize the breed's needs. Many Alaskan Malamute owners abandon their dogs when facing problems.
One of the most common problems breed owners cannot handle is the Alaskan Malamute's stubbornness. A dog deprived of appropriate training tends to be dominant and will not readily obey commands. Thus, the first thing to keep in mind when purchasing the breed is the owner's ability to consistently train the dog. It will be particularly hard to enjoy such a huge and independent dog's companionship if the dog has not received obedience training.
The Alaskan Malamute is a powerful dog that does not do well with other pets. Various skirmishes occur between dogs that have not received early socialization. Alaskan Malamute owners are advised to expose their dogs to other canines from an early age and supervise them for excessive aggressiveness outbursts.
People who are well aware of the breed personality characteristics and are willing to adopt a dog should not forget that the Alaskan Malamute is a shedding breed. It sheds twice a year and needs daily brushing. In terms of feeding the dog is easy to care for. Despite their large size, Alaskan Malamutes do not need enormous amounts of food.
